Jail inmate accused of rape dies after hanging

Carol Ann Avet Rogers, 71, a native of Crisfield, Md., and a resident of Houma, La., died on Sunday, July 3, 2016.
Ms. Rogers was a parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Metairie. She retired from United Way of New Orleans after 18 years of service. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Barry (Faye), Mark (Cindy) and Randy (Angela) Matherne; brothers, Steve (Loretta), David (Debbie) and Sterling (Lisa) Avet; four grandchildren and one step-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Burial is at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 in Houma.
