Thibodaux man arrested for second-degree battery following alleged altercation

A 45-year-old Thibodaux man was arrested on Aug. 26 after allegedly striking a victim in the head during an altercation.

On the above-listed date, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office authorities were called to a residence on La. Highway 304 in Thibodaux in reference to a call about an altercation between two people in the area.


Upon arrival, deputies said they learned that Derek Chiasson, 45, of Thibodaux, arrived at the residence earlier and had started a physical altercation with a man there.

According to authorities, Chiasson struck the victim in the head multiple times during the incident, which injured the victim enough to where he needed medical attention.

Authorities said they made contact with Chiasson and he admitted his role in the incident.


He was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, where he was booked on charges of second-degree battery.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries in the incident.

Larose man charged with third-degree rape of a minor


A Larose man admitted to Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies that he was guilty of having illegal sexual contact with a minor.

On Friday, August 26, LPSO said it started an investigation after the mother of a teenage girl reported that she’d been raped.

Detectives learned the victim was at a friend’s house when she started consuming alcohol.


According to authorities, Ronnie Spano Jr., 28, of Larose, was also there at the time this was taking place.

Authorities said after the victim became intoxicated, Spano allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim. During questioning, authorities said Spano admitted to having sexual contact with the girl, which led to his arrest.

He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and is charged with third-degree rape.


His bond is set at $150,000.

According to authorities, he has been ordered to stay away from the victim.

Authorities looking for information regarding casino robbery


Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office authorities are looking for information that can lead to an arrest after an armed robbert at Lucky’s Casino last week.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on Aug. 30, deputies arrived at the casino, which is located at 1361 La. Highway 182, and discovered that an armed robbery had occurred and that the suspects had already left the scene of the crime.

According to deputies, the suspects entered the casino armed with handguns and masks covering their faces.


During the robbery, suspects got away with an undetermined amount of cash.

Deputies said no one was injured in the incident.

Larpenter said authorities are looking for public help in putting those responsible behind bars.

Body of woman found at Devil’s Swamp Road

Terrebonne Parish deputies are seeking information to help them identify the badly decomposed body of a woman found Saturday afternoon on Devil’s Swamp Road in Schriever.

Chief of Detectives Malcolm Wolfe said the body of the woman, whose race could not be determined, was found at around 1:30 p.m., in a ditch, about one half mile east of the La. 20 and Devil’s Swamp Road intersection.


She was wearing a short pink in color skirt and pink sandals with a dark colored short sleeve blouse. Wolfe also said she has a tattoo below her navel that appears to read “Eat Me” with a red-colored design. There are no other visible marks or tattoos.

Devil’s Swamp Road passes through a cane field and several wooded areas before opening up near a Thibodaux subdivision. No other information was available at press time.

Wolfe said assistance from the public would be appreciated and that anyone with information should call 876-2500.


Robbery suspect sought by TPSO authorities

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for the suspect in an armed robbery, which took place last week.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 25, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said his deputies responded to a reported robbery in the 300 block of Champion Street in Houma.


According to authorities, the caller said a victim had been robbed at gun point by another resident while walking through the neighborhood of Mobile Estates.

When police arrived, they made contact with the victim, who said he was outdoors when he was approached by Jonte Killough, 18, of 515 Mobile Estates Drive.

The suspect said Killough had a gun and demanded his money.


Once the victim gave the suspect money, Killough allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Detectives searched the area for the suspect, but couldn’t find him, and a warrant was put out for his arrest.

Larpenter said he’s asking for the public’s help in locating Killough.
