Football season gets almost all of the glory in Louisiana, and rightfully so. But there are some other terrific student-athletes competing and representing their schools in other competitions, as well. It’s volleyball season in the Houma-Thibodaux area, and several teams are contenders. Here are photos from a weekday match between South Lafourche and Thibodaux.

Thibodaux High School’s offense gave the Tarpons problems throughout Thursday’s match, but on this particular point, the Tarpons’ defense, led by Sierra Lerille (left) and Abigail Bouzigard were up to the challenge. The Tigers won the match 3-1, scoring revenge over South Lafourche, which beat Thibodaux earlier in the season at a tournament.

Thibodaux’s tough spikes caused problems for the Tarpons’ defense, which spent a lot of the match digging the ball off the gym floor.
