Dr. Richard Morris Coats, a native of Jennings, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Dec. 3, 2015.


Dr. Coats was a professor of economics at Nicholls State University. He was also a published author and was often cited in various journals, and was actively involved in the Nicholls community. In 2000, he received the Argent Bank Endowed Professorship in the college of business. Dr. Coats was also an active member of the Thibodaux Community Band. He loved his family, his work and his guitars.

Dr. Coats is survived by his wife, Anna Lisa Huval Coats; daughter, Kelsie (Garry) Pritchard; one granddaughter; sons, Mason (fiancee: Amanda Seeman) and Ian.

A memorial service will be held today at Landry’s Funeral Home on from 5 to 8 p.m. A prayer service begins at 7 p.m.
