An agreement over a parking lot will generate $100,000 for the Dr. Martin Lather King Park in Thibodaux. and ease congestion at a busy city intersection.

Mayor Tommy Eschete said Cardiovascular Institute of the South, located at 1320 Martin Lather King Drive, will build a 100 slot parking place across the street from its facility, an city property, to handle its patient services.

In return, he said the city will be paid $100,000 over 10 years, which he intends to use for improvements at the MLK Park,


The city council voted unanimously on Tuesday, to approve Eschete inking the formal agreement

The parking lot will be built on property near the park, the mayor said, and it will not take up any park space.

Under the agreement, the city will be able to use the parking lot outside of CIS’s normal business hours and on weekends and holidays.


Councilwoman Constance Williams was excited over the plans, praising CIS.

“This really says a lot about these folks – about how many persons they take care of in this community – both inside their doors and outside,” Williams said.

A construction date has not yet been released an the project


In other business, beginning next month the city will new its agreement with the state Department of Transportation and Development, to maintain grass cutting along state highways that are within the city

The agreement begins July 1 and ends July 30 of 2019. The city will receive $10,800 for its services, and under the agreement, the city must clean and mow the grass at least four times during the year.

In other matters Tuesday, the council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a contract with O’Brien’s Response Management of 3 lid ell. for disaster debris removal monitoring.


The council also approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a professional services contract with Artisan Pyrotechnics Inc. of Wiggins, Mississippi, for fireworks for the 2018 Let Freedom Ring Festival.

After the meeting. Councilman Constance Williams shared a flier noting June 38 at 6 pan. as the second quarter annual meeting with the constituents of her district.

The meeting will be held at the St. Luke Community Center at 800 East 11th Street.


“Come and bring your concerns, and receive community updates.” she said.

Scheduled to be at that meeting are: Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre, Lafourche Parish Councilman Jerry Jones, Lafourche Public Works Director Archie Chaisson. Pariah Parks Director Kevin Clement, and members of the Lafourche Parish School Board.

“I hope to see many folks there – please make plans to attend,” she said.
