A 35-year-old Raceland man is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after authorities allegedly found a gun in his possession during an intense struggle, which occurred after a traffic stop

The stop occurred around 2:15 a.m. on July 15 on Dantin Street in Raceland.


While speaking to the driver, authorities identified the passenger as Charles Gale, 35, of Raceland.

Authorities learned that he had two active warrants for his arrest, while caused him to try and flee on foot

As he ran away. Gale allegedly pushed a deputy who was standing nearby


Authorities pursued the suspect and took him into custody shortly after.

After the suspect was handcuffed, he allegedly attempted to reach into his waistband, resisting deputies violently as they attempted to stop him from doing so.

When authorities stood the suspect up. they discovered a loaded handgun on the ground, which they believe fell from his waistband during the struggle.


The weapon was found to have been reported stolen in 2009 in Thibodaux.

Gale was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on charges of illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer with force of violence, battery of a police officer and two outstanding warrants for contempt of court.

His bond has been set at $110,000, but per one of the contempt of court warrants, he has been ordered to serve an 87-day sentence in jail or pay $5,000 in back Child support.
