The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will offer a free hunter education course this week for anyone 10 or older.

The classroom course is a two-day affair, which will cover topics like hunter responsibility and ethics and also how firearms work, safety and first aid skills.

Information related to wildlife conservation and management will also be covered throughout the event.

The course will take place from Aug. 20-21.

The Saturday session will be from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m., and will take place at LPSO’s Law Enforcement Complex, which is located at 1300 Lynn St., in Thibodaux.

The class will then resume on Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the LPSO Shooting Range in Raceland.

Sheriff Craig Webre warns that firearms and ammo should not be brought to the two-day course, but that snacks are allowed to stay fresh throughout the day.

Anyone wanting more information or for assistance with online registration is asked to call the LPSO Training Academy at (985) 449-4480. The office is available on weekdays from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m.

For after hours, contact Lt. Nolan Smith at nolan-smith@lpso.net.

Online registration for the event is required, and can be completed at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/87086.
