A Galliano convicted felon is accused of pointing a gun at a victim’s head, then firing several rounds into the rear cab of the victim’s truck during an incident last week.

At around 11:40 p.m. on Aug. 10, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a possible shooting in the area of Jermie Charles’ residence in Galliano on West Main Street.

Upon arrival, deputies were unable to find anyone willing to cooperate with the investigation, so they left the area.

The next morning, the alleged victim, who is related to Charles, 28, of Galliano, allegedly called and agreed to cooperate in the investigation, which took detectives back to the area.

Through investigation, detectives learned the victim had arrived at Charles’ residence to speak to him and when he arrived, Charles allegedly aimed a gun at the victim’s head.

Once the victim pushed the barrel off him, Charles allegedly fired several rounds into the rear cab of the victim’s pickup. Detectives said they observed two .22 caliber shell casings inside the vehicle and other evidence that shots were fired into the vehicle.

Detectives made contact with Charles on Friday at his residence.

He was found to have two loaded magazines in his possession with the same caliber rounds found to have been used in the incident.

Authorities also learned that Charles, a convicted felon, had a protective order prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

Charles was arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He was booked with aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of a protective order.

His bond is set at $130,000.

Suspect charged with rape after bar incident

A 30-year-old Houma man is accused of sexually assaulting a 58-year-old victim.

On Aug. 11 just before midnight, HPD was called to the 8500 block of Main Street in reference to a rape call.

During investigation, authorities made contact with a 58-year-old woman who said she was sexually assaulted by a former male acquaintance.

Authorities said they also learned that the victim and the suspect, identified as Johnathan LeCompte, 30, of May Street, were at a local bar when he allegedly asked the victim to step outside.

During the encounter, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim forcefully, disrobing her and sexually assaulting her.

HPD also learned that LeCompte threatened the victim, telling her that she better not report the incident.

At the conclusion of the investigation, HPD located LeCompte and took him into custody, charging him with simple rape.

HPD said LeCompte fully cooperated with authorities at the time of his arrest.

The suspect was taken to the Terrebonne Jail where he awaits bond.
