A 53-year-old Galliano man was arrested last week after allegedly having sexual contact with a child.

Anthony Chouest, 53, of Galliano, is charged with first-degree rape after investigators determined that the suspect allegedly had made contact with a suspect under 13, according to Lafourche Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Brennan Matherne.

Matherne said that juvenile detectives learned that the alleged sexual contact occurred multiple times. During questioning, authorities said Chouest admitted his involvement in the incidents.

Chouest was arrested Thursday, and is being held on $250,000 bond at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, Matherne said.

Because of the nature of the crime, Matherne said the LPSO would not release any additional information about the case, or identify Chouest’s relationship to the teen or her family.
