Gene Thomas Pontiff, 72, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Monday, June 10, 2013.


Mr. Pontiff loved watching football with his beloved dog Tinker and his grandson Jordan. He loved cooking and gardening and always welcomed anyone into his home. He was a loving and Christian husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Pontiff; stepchildren, Lynn (Steven) Ford, Mary (Dean) Bergeron, Amy Kraemer, Evelyn Bailey and Lester Chaisson; sister, Marie Louise Pontiff Lapeyre and husband Harold, Bonnie Caro, Beverly Fenton, brothers, Edward Jr. (Rowena) and Gerard (Sharon) Pontiff and Larry (Judy) and Daniel (Claire) Brien; 13 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Pontiff Sr.; mother, Laura Brien; stepfather, Lance Brien; son, Daniel Burrell; sisters, Dorothy Pontiff and Margie Giglio; and brothers, George Pontiff and Lance Jr. and Johnnie Brien.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Annunziata Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at Terrebonne Memorial Park. (Chauvin)
