Local social workers celebrated for service

Gwen Cheramie, 70, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.
Mrs. Cheramie is a former banker, insurance agent and political consultant. She was a member or board member of the Lafourche Republican Women, Leadership Lafourche, American Cancer Society, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Leadership Louisiana, Council for a Better Louisiana, Special Education District No. 1, South Louisiana Economic Council, South Central Industrial Asosciation and Lafourche First. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering and traveling, going to every state in the Union except North Dakota.
She is survived by her husband, Roland Cheramie; son, David (Nicole) Cheramie; sister, Sandy; and three grandchildren.
Burial is at a later date.
