A 39-year-old Cut Off man was arrested Tuesday after leading deputies on a high-speed chase throughout the South Lafourche area, firing multiple shots in the process.

Convicted felon Daniel Borne, 39, of Cut Off, was scheduled to appear in court for a jury trial on Tuesday on several charges stemming from multiple incidents, including burglary, theft, DWI, drug possession and traffic violations.

When Borne failed to appear, eight warrants for contempt of court were issued for his arrest with combined bond at $1.2 million.

At around 1:30 p.m last Tuesday, authorities learned that Borne had allegedly stolen a truck from a residence on East 58th Street in Cut Off. Authorities said they learned that Borne got there the night before on a motorcycle, which was also allegedly stolen.

While deputies were conducting their investigation into the stolen truck, Borne returned to the scene with the vehicle.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on him, but he refused, turning northbound onto La. Highway 308.

Borne allegedly forced several drivers off the road as he continued to the Larose area, turning onto La. Highway 657 and then southbound onto La. Highway 3235.

At that time, Borne allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun in the direction of the pursuing deputies, and he continued firing rounds at the deputies throughout various points of the high-speed chase.

Borne continued southbound and turned left onto West 134th Place where a male passenger jumped out of the vehicle.

He later crossed the Galliano Pontoon Bridge and proceeded north on East Main Street.

When the truck he was driving ran out of gas, Borne attempted to flee on foot, but deputies quickly surrounded him and ordered him to surrender.

The suspect still had the handgun at that time and he allegedly fired a single round into the ground, then held the gun to his head.

Authorities continued to speak to the suspect and they eventually convinced him to drop the gun and surrender, which led to his being taken into custody without incident.

Deputies detained the passenger in Borne’s vehicle for a lot of the chase and learned that he requested to leave the car numerous times, but Borne pointed the gun at him, refusing to allow him to leave.

Detectives also discovered several bullet holes in the tailgate area of the truck, as well as at a business in Galliano.

There are no known injuries in the incident.

Borne has been booked on the eight contempt of court warrants, as well as now four counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of dangerous weapons and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

His bond was originally set to close to $1.9 million, but a Lafourche Parish judge later raised it and it currently sits at $3.2 million at press-time.

More charges may come, as the investigation is ongoing.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said he wanted to thank all of the law enforcement agencies that helped in the chase, including Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Probation and Parole, Golden Meadow Police and the Port Fourchon Harbor Police.

Webre said he’s grateful no one was injured, despite a dangerous situation.

“This incident could have resulted in tragedy for the suspect or our deputies,” Webre said. “I am thankful for the outstanding efforts of all responding law enforcement officers who brought about a peaceful end to an extremely dangerous situation.”

Daniel Borne, 39, of Cut Off, will likely serve several years in prison if he’s found guilty of attempted murder charges given to him this past week after he allegedly shot at officers during a high-speed chase.
