Crews have begun to build a new 1.3-mile highway with two 12-foot travel lanes from Hollywood Road to Southdown Mandalay Road, connecting the Summerfield Subdivision’s three roads to provide a quicker route between Houma and Bayou Black.

According to Parish President Gordon Dove the extension will cost roughly $5 million dollars.

“This includes Engineering, land acquisition, construction, and wetland mitigation,” he said. The construction should take approximately 1 year for completion.


Providence Engineering oversees planning the construction and LA Contracting is building the project, which was awarded through a public bid. Site superintendent Jason Mabile, 43, of Thibodaux explained that the project is currently ready for rock-dirt subgrade. The start date was October 4th, and the project is currently on schedule, said Mabile.

“It will make the Southdown Mandalay region one of our fastest growing areas,” said Darrin Guidry, the Councilman of district 6.

Guidry was also hopeful that the new path would relieve congestion on Valhi and St. Charles Street, and Shay drive, which he said was currently receiving the which he said was currently receiving the brunt of traffic.


The project is one of several completed during Dove’s administration. Most recently an extension from La. 311 that branches onto Corporate Drive was done.

Also recently completed was the extension of Thompson Road.

It cuts through an area that starts at Grand Caillou Road, continuing until it reaches La. 24.


According to Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove, work to build a new. 1.3-mile highway from Hollywood Road to Southdown Mandalay Road will cost about $5 million dollars. The parish president said the work will take about a year to complete.
