Terrebonne Parish District 3 Councilman Greg Hood Sr. announced he is running for a second term on the parish council.

Hood said in a release his top priorities, if re-elected, would be improving drainage infrastructure in the parish, fostering business growth and retention and being a good steward of constituents’ tax dollars.

Hood, who has served on the council since elected in 2011, said his leadership has led to widening of ditches throughout the parish, replacement of a pump engine at the Bonanza pump station on Synergy Center Boulevard and adding a second pump at the Bouquet Street pump station.

Hood also played a role in various improvements such as the widening of the Westside Boulevard Bridge, widening of Hollywood Road, various improvements to sewage infrastructure and the extension of Westside Boulevard.

Hood also cited his role in the ordinance banning the sale of synthetic marijuana and bath salt in the parish and changes to the handicapped-parking ordinance to include disabled veterans plates.

Hood also said he believes in keeping individual rights with a smaller government and approvingno new taxes.

Hood retired from the Houma Police Department as a captain in 2010 after more than 30 years. During his career with the department, he created and managed the Homeland Security Department, started and designed the emergency response team that was activated during Hurricane Gustav, commanded the Critical Response, or SWAT.

“Being retired, I can focus full-time on the needs of the District 3 residents and council. I am easy to reach with questions, issues or scheduling,” Hood said. “I have the time, the drive, and the passion for this community to make great things happen as your representative.”

Hood also served in the U.S. Army for four years.

He has been a resident of Terrebonne Parish for more than 35 years and raised his son, daughters and granddaughter here.
