Houma’s newest pizzeria is a welcome dining option for those who Like to play-well, get crafty-with their food.

Your Pie, 1378 W. Tunnel Blvd., has been firing up custom pizzas and panini in its signature brick oven for a month. Franchise owners Richard and Ricky Reaves and their wives, Danise and Rachel knew they had to bring the restaurant to Houma after visiting Your Pie’s Houston and Atlanta locations. The concept is simpler choose a hand-tossed dough, select your favorite sauces and toppings, and wait a few minutes, literally, for your pie to bake. Your pie-Get it?

While the restaurant does offer a selection of signature pizzas, like the Margherita-style Ischia, customization is encouraged and celebrated. Past visits have found me pairing pepperoni and buffalo sauce (recommended for fans of spicy foods) and I have witnessed chicken and mozzarella, pile on top of barbecue sauce. Guests on special diets can share in the adventurous dining experience with options like gluten-free dough and vegan cheese.

A recent visit to Hon ma’s Your Pie left roe with a dilemma: experimental or traditional? I chose the latter and kept things simple with white dough, marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella, fets, Pannesan, peppsroni and ham, By the time I paid for my order, fixed my drink and took a seat, my pie was landing at my table.

A brick oven pizza is a work of art Its beauty has everything to do with the way the proteins melt gingerly into the cheese, as if each pepperoni slice is lying on a memory foam pillow. The delicate air bubbles take on a slight char that matches the color and flavor of the pie’s outer crust. The hint of grease on the surface produces a sheen that makes the anticipation of taking the first bite that much more exciting.

The saying goes that looks can only get you so far. If that’s true, this pizza ban nothing to worry about – it has beauty both inside and out The first bite introduces the palate to a medium density crust that lets the house-made marinara speak for itself. Your Pie’s red sauce is heavy on traditional Italian flavors, with herbs and spices like oregano and basil enhancing the tangy tomato base. This is not a sweet marinara that goes unnoticed With this sauce as the foundation of your pie, you will want to add a selection of cheeses to neutralize the acidity and balance out the flavors. On my next visit, I am tempted to try the “ranchy marinara” blend to find out what a hint of cod ranch can add to my pie.

Your Pie doesn’t mind if yon gat too cheesy, so I opted for shredded mozzarella, crumbled feta and grated Parmesan. The restaurant does offer a sliced mozzarella option, but keep in mind that this cheese has more water content. When paired with a wet sauce like marinara, the slices melt beautifully but sometimes don’t bake into the pizza as well as the shredded mozzarella. What you get is a layer of cheese and topping, falling off the dough. If you’re into sliced mozzarella, go with a simple base of olive oil, like on the Ischia pizza. The let j on my pie added a welcome saltiness, while the Parmesan delivered an Italian punch that enhanced the marinara’s seasonings and spices.

As for protons, I kept my pie traditional with pepperoni and ham. I like that Tour Pie starts with sliced harm, and hand shreds each piece to cover the entire ID-inch pizza The pepperoni had a classic, salty flavor with a welcome soft texture that rested delicately atop the cheese. There is enough meat on the pizza to ensure that each bite offers the full flavor profile of the pie you’ve crafted.

Speaking of craft. Your Pie offers a generous selection of local craft beers and boutique wines. If you’d like a pairing suggestion, feel free to ask.

Your Pie’s specially is pizza, but it should be noted that the restaurant’s fresh baked penini and chopped salads are equally satisfying should you be craving an alternate option.

I don’t always save room for dessert, but I make extra effort far a treat like gelato. Denser than traditional ice cream, gelato is best enjoyed in a small serving. Two small scoops are all you need to satisfy a sweet tooth and freshen your palate after enjoying a salt-rich Italian meal. If gelato is too heavy for you. Your Pie offers a freah sorbet selection as well Both gelato and sorbet flavors change daily so keep this in mind when ordering.

Your Pie adds a refreshing dining experience to Houma’s restaurant scene. Pizza has always been a fun food to eat Now it an excuse to get crafty, and that makes it extra fun-and tasty.
