Detectives say they need help from the public as they try to find out who is responsible for the shooting of a Montegut man found in a vehicle at the Ashland subdivision early Saturday.

Tony Vaughn, 31, remains in critical condition at a New Orleans hospital, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.

He was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and other areas of the upper body shortly after 12:30 a.m., Larpenter said, after deputies responded to a call of shots being fired on Santa Monica Drive near Grand Caillou Road.

Moments after the shots were heard, the vehicle Vaughn was driving, which was borrowed from a friend, crashed into a stop sign.

The victim has a checkered history of petty crimes and one felony drug conviction.

Anyone with information is asked to call 875-2500 or Crimestoppers at 800-743-7433 to give information and potentially receive a reward.
