Mr. Cappel served in the Fourth Army Infantry from 1954-

56, and studied Art at Louisiana State University from 1956-

57. He was happiest cooking seafood gumbo or painting. A sought-after costume designer, he created his own costume masterpiece for his reign over the 17th Annual Krewe of Petronius Ball Masque in 1978, served as its captain in 1980, and would again don a Mardi Gras crown in 2013 when chosen to reign as King of the Krewe of Venus at the Lafourche Home for the Aged.


He is survived by his daughters, Maroy (Bob) Merino; Cherry (Beth Blankenship) Cappel; former spouse, Anne Cappel; three grandchildren; and siblings, Teeny (Don) Kuhn, Edmund (Caroline), Fred (Sally) and Dick (Eileen) Cappel; and numerous other relatives.
