Joseph William Ellender Sr., 91, a native of Chauvin, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 12:55 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016.

Mr. Ellender was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during WWII. He enjoyed carpentry, baking bread and was a ventriloquist.


He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Georgette “Velma” Lefort Ellender; son, Ross (Sandra) Ellender; daughters, Jessica (Kiel) Theriot, Gwendolyn Ellender, and Gredel (Leon) D’Souza; six grandchildren,; and nine great-grandchildren. Burial is at Terrebonne Memorial Park. (Chauvin)
