A Lafourche Parish Councilman ma arrested a second time last week for violating a protective order.

The next day, he was found guilty of falsifying public records, then was held in contempt after allegedly showing up to court intoxicated

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said Councilman James Bourgeois Sr., 51, of Race land was arrested last Tuesday night after he violated a protective order by remaining in a restaurant where fellow Councilman Jerry LaFont also present and dining.


A protective order since late April has prohibited Bourgeois from I corning within 50 yards of LaFont The sole exception is that they may both be present at the pariah council meetings. but they have to use separate entrances.

A judge imposed the protective order alter Bourgeois allegedly threatened to till Lafout after an April council meeting. Bourgeois was later charged with simple battery.

The councilman a first violation of the order was in June* when he used the wrong entrance at the council meeting.

Jones said he has been a Lafourche Councilman far 24 years and he doesn’t believe anything has ever happened like this, “in the history of Lafourche.” Meanwhile, Bourgeois was in court last week to prove that he lives in Lafourche Parish. and not in Metairie. After a multi-day trial it was determined that Bourgeois’ home in Lafourche was a “camp” and that the councilman had traveled to and from the city hundreds of times over the past several years.


Bourgeois is guilty of falsifying records when he ran for election. saying that he lived in the pariah — a prerequisite for running for the council.
