Laila “Bonnie” Carreker Bollinger, born in Eden (Pell City), Alabama on August 27, 1949, passed away peacefully at home in Gray, Louisiana on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Although named Laila after her paternal grandmother, for her entire life she has been known by her nickname, Bonnie.

She also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.

After living her childhood in Eden, Alabama, in 1966, she and her family moved to Houma, where she graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1967. Bonnie worked in the credit union industry for more than 25 years. She worked with numerous credit unions during her career before retiring as Executive Vice President from La Terre Federal Credit Union in 2015. She enjoyed all aspects of her credit union career which included her work throughout Louisiana as an employee of the Louisiana Credit Union League, performing credit union audits, training credit union staff, and serving as a district representative for the League. Bonnie also volunteered for more than eight years as Vice President of the East Orleans Credit Union Chapter of the LCUL.

As a longtime resident of Terrebonne Parish, Bonnie found her ‘church home’ at Bayou Blue United Methodist Church. At this church, she particularly enjoyed the United Methodist Women’s organization for which she held a leadership position of Treasurer for 10 years.

Her hobbies and interests included music and gardening, and she especially loved fishing with her husband, Wayne, and her brother, Herb, and other members of her family. She was passionate about her family and will always be loved by her family and friends with whom she shared so many precious memories and the wonderful journey of this life.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, consider a donation in memory to Bayou Blue United Methodist Church, National CMV Foundation, or The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center.
