DA touts Amnesty April

Dear Editor,

In our efforts to promote public safety and allow drivers to clear up outstanding 32nd Judicial District traffic citations before ramped up enforcement proceedings are implemented, the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s traffic department is offering the public the following incentive to take care of their traffic concerns.

For the month of April, any driver who has an unpaid outstanting traffic citation or who has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for a traffic citation will be allowed certain optinos. Drivers will be allowed to pay outstanding tickets without late fees or penalties and arrest warrants will be cancelled thereby avoding the possibility of jail time. This is a one-time offer designed to assist drivers who are unable to obtain valid driver’s licenses because of outstanding traffic matters, which in turn, will lessen the number of illegal drivers on our roads and highways and should also reduce the number of uninsured motorists since proof of insurance is mandatory to obtain a license.

Individuals who have these issues will be able to take care of their business without having to miss work or school by using the District Attorney’s phone line, mail or online optinos.

Anyone can contact the District Attorney’s Office and ask for the Amnesty April extensino and you will be informed of exactly what you need to do to resolve any issues relative to your unpaid traffic citations and/or arrest warrants.

This program will end April 30. Thereafter, there will be an aggressive enforcement for individuals who have outstanding tickets or warrants. The goal of Amnesty April is to allow individuals to resolve outstanding traffic issues without the exposure of late fees and penalties and to allow individuals who currently have a warrant outstanding to avoid jail time. The other goal is to reduce the number of illegal drivers and uninsured motorists.

This offer does not apply to DWIs, reckless operatino of a motor vehicle, parking violations and certain offenses. The District Attorney does reserve the right to refuse payment in certain cases.
