CHILDREN’S MINI PARADE

It’s Carnival time! The Krewe of Aphrodite and Cannata’s will host the annual Children’s Mini Parade. Children 12 and under are invited to decorate a mini float, and throw beads, candy and trinkets to parade-goers. No motorized floats, please. Prizes will be awarded for Best Individual Costume, Best Group Costume and Best Float. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

SOUPER BOWL FOR UNITED WAY


Join United Way of South Louisiana at their annual cook-off competition between local vendors and companies, who craft their best gumbo, soup and chili dishes. Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be given as well as crowd favorite. This year will also include the Manuel Merlos Philanthropic Award, in honor of Manual who chaired the first three events. There will be entertainment and plenty to eat for a $5 entry fee. AN AMERICAN IN PARIS

Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, “An American in Paris” is the romantic story about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. Directed and choreographed by 2015 Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheel-don, the show features the music and lyrics of George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, and a book by Craig Lucas. Tickets start at $30.

Join the Cajun Music Preservation Society for an open Cajun music jam session at the Venetian in downtown Thibodaux. If you play an acoustic instrument or are just starting out and would like to learn, join in the jam. If you don’t play an instrument, but would like to watch one of the best cultural Louisiana experiences in the heart of Thibodaux, stop by for dinner and enjoy the show. The Venetian is a family-friendly restaurant.

The South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center hosts this annual event to raise awareness of wetland values and benefits. During the event, the Discovery Center hosts an education event complete with hands-on activities and a tour of the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum. 5TH ANNUAL WOMEN’S LOVE YOUR HEART LUNCHEON

Learn more about the health of your heart while participating in cardiac screenings at the 5th annual Love Your Heart Luncheon. Presented by TGMC Healthy Lifestyles Center and the Cardiovascular Institute of the South, this community event will feature a heart-healthy lunch and a presentation by Dr. Peter Fail, along with free health screenings, information on smoking cessation, vein treatment, weight management and more.
