The LSU football team is moving up in the college football polls.

The Tigers jumped five spots to No. 8 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll – the highest that the team has been ranked this season.

LSU earned their position after walloping Auburn 45-21 on Saturday afternoon – one of the most dominant victories for any college football team this season.

The Tigers rushed for more than 400 yards in the win, led by 200-plus and three touchdowns from standout sophomore halfback Leonard Fournette, who strengthened his Heisman Trophy candidacy in the victory.

“Leonard sure likes playing,” LSU football coach Les Miles said. “He did some things today where I said ‘Wow.’ He took one of their tackles and threw him into another tackle and still came out at the other end. When you have a big back who can really move his feet, at times, it can be very difficult to tackle him.”

For the LSU football team, Saturday’s win was huge.

The Tigers are now 2-0 in the SEC – a huge upgrade from the slow start that the team had in 2014.

LSU’s football schedule starts tough and ends tough, but is soft in the middle.

The Tigers will be heavily favored in all of their next five games leading up to a Nov. 7 showdown at Alabama.

LSU will face Syracuse on Saturday, then will take on Eastern Michigan, South Carolina, Florida and Western Kentucky in the next five weeks – all games that the Tigers should be favored to win by 10-plus points.

The Tigers are one of six SEC teams that are ranked in the Top 25. Ole Miss leads the pack at No. 3 – fresh off Saturday’s victory at Alabama. Also ahead of LSU is Georgia, who is No. 7 after destroying South Carolina.

Also ranked in the poll are Alabama (No. 12), Texas A&M (No. 14) and Missouri (No. 25).

LSU will take on Syracuse on Saturday.

Kickoff for that game is set for 11 a.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN.

The Orange are 3-0 on the season, including a win against Central Michigan on Saturday.

But the team is down to its third-string quarterback after a rash of injuries.
