Mavis Savoie Matherne, 80, a native of Cut Off, La., grew up in Houma, La., and later resided in Bourg, La., died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015.

Mrs. Matherne was a member of the Purple Angels of Bayou Blue Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She was retired and had worked at the Clerk of Courts Office in Houma for 22 years. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg.


Mrs. Matherne is survived by her husband of 61 years, F. J. Matherne; daughters, Christine (Stephen) Cantrelle and Carrie (Billy) Randolph; son, Eric (Michelle) Matherne; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Judy Savoie and Susan LeFort.

Visitation is set for today, Aug. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Matherne Cemetery, 635 Bayou Blue Road in Houma.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mavis may be made to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma or. St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg.
