The Best of the Bayou Festival is bringing in some nationally recognized talent and local favorites this year.

The Houma-based festival announced its music lineup last week, with 19 acts set to play on two stages in downtown Houma on September 24-25.

New Orleans-based soul/rock seven-piece The Revivalists headline the festival, while Grammy winners Wayne Toups and Terrance Simien will bring their Cajun zydeco music to Houma. Toups will also be performing with The Band Courtbouillon for a second performance. Joining The Revivalists in representing the Crescent City will be the Brass-a-Holics and their kinetic, horn-based soul.

Local acts include bluesman Josh Garrett, the Jordan Anderson Band, Bandit, Ayo, the Hurricane Levee Band and the Cajun Music Preservation Band.

Festival co-chairperson Layne Barrilleaux said the free festival is a community event that also invites visitors to enjoy some down-home fun.

“Anyone who has ever been to the festival knows what a great time and bargain it is,” Barrilleaux said. “This festival is something we as a community can not only take part in, but be proud of. We are showcasing to everyone that Houma has a lot to offer.”

Dave Norman, Barrilleaux’s fellow chairperson, said while a celebration may seem strange during a down local economy, it can serve as a testament to the Bayou Region’s fortitude.

“It might seem odd to people who aren’t from around here. We locals know there’s no better way to show our resolve than to pass a good time.”

The Best of the Bayou Festival will again bring several top acts to Terrebonne Parish. This year’s lineup will feature 19 acts, including Wayne Toups and Terrance Simien.
