Business travelers staying in Houma for extended periods now have a new lodging option, with the completion of the area’s first Hilton hotel.
The Homewood Suites by Hilton, located at 142 Citi Place Drive off of Martin Luther King Boulevard, began accepting travelers Feb. 27.
The upscale, residential-style hotel features 105 rooms with full-sized kitchens, separate bedrooms and living spaces, and a variety of guest services.
“We’re starting to get a lot positive feedback from a lot of people who are very interested in the Hilton Homewood brand,” said Michael Mocklin, the hotel’s general manager. “They’ve been ‘waiting for it to open,’ they say.”
Mocklin attributes that to a familiarity that customers have with Hilton hotels.
Mocklin said most Hilton Homewood guests stay between two weeks and three months. He said any stay over five days is considered “extended.”
The hotel was built and is owned by Ashi Houma Hotels and is the eighth Home-wood Suites in Louisiana.
The hotel has a large outdoor recreational area with a pool, a barbecue area, and a basketball court. Inside, there is a large business center and a gym with full amenities.
Guests can enjoy a complimentary full breakfast, dinner and drinks at night Mondays through Thursdays, and complimentary Internet. There is also a complimentary grocery shopping service, but guests must pay for their groceries.
The hotel is also pet-friendly.
The Homewood Suites of Houma is situated close to many different oil services companies and is close to restaurants and the Southland Mall. There is a themed grand opening tentatively planned for March 26. It will be Wizard of Oz-themed and visitors can follow the Bayou Blue Road while exploring the new hotel, Mocklin said.
The Hilton Homewood hotel off of Martin Luther King Boulevard is open, offering residential-style living for business travelers staying in Houma for a while.
