Nicholls State University is moving closer to finding its new president.

The university announced this week that it has names six semifinalists in the search to replace Dr. Bruce Murphy, who is resigning from his position with the university at the end of the calendar year.

Of the six candidates, five have direct ties to Nicholls and they all will undergo interviews open to the public – a process which started yesterday and will continue today.

Wade Rousse and Shawn Mauldin, a pair of Nicholls graduates started the interview process on Tuesday at the Cotillion Ballroom of the campus’ student union.

Mauldin is currently working at Mississippi State University, while Rousse is an oil and gasman and employee at Northern Arizona State.

Today, interviews will wrap up with Eugene Dial, Marchete Evans, Jay Clune and John Doucet – at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., respectively.

Dial has been at Nicholls for more than 30 years and is currently the Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Education.

Doucet is a department head and longtime staff member.

Clune is currently employed at West Florida, but is a graduate of Nicholls.

Evans is the lone outsider.

She currently works at Our Lady of the Lake University and has been working at universities for more than 15 years;

The university hopes to trim the semifinalists to finalists, then pick a new president later this month.
