Norman “Buddy” Joseph Giroir, 88, a native of Gibson, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015.

Visitation is today from 9 a.m. until service time at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with burial it St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.


Mr. Giroir was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a successful owner of an oil field business. Mr. Giroir received the Bishop’s Medal of Honor for his service at St. Patrick’s Church in Gibson, and he was also an active member in that community. And he also served three terms on the Terrebonne Parish School Board.

Mr. Giroir is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Giroir; sons, Lynn (Edwina), Terry (Janis) and Bryan (Trudy) Giroir; daughters, Cindy (Clay) McGlasson and Connie (Stanley II) Aucoin; sister-in-law, Mamie Trahan; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Louisiana chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
