The Bayou Country Children’s Museum (BCCM) will host its 10th Annual “Hay It Forward” Casino & Auction Fundraiser on March 29 at their facility. 211 Rue Betan-court in Thibodaux

“It celebrating ten yean of the fundraiser feels great If s been a very successful event for us, if s one that raises a lot of the much needed funds that we need to operate the museum on a day-to-day basis,” said Chris Gergeni, Executive Director of BCCM. “And it shows how much that the eight parishes we serve support us and like what we’re doing. It’s a great outreach.”

Play It Forward actually had its inaugural year a few years prior to the museum being built. Having a very successful first and subsequent years, the event quickly made the children’s museum dream a reality and later helped the museum expand.


“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the yean Being one of the, if not the only, children’s museum in the state that receives no direct tax funding, if s vitally important for us to he able to raise these funds so we can not only continue the programs we offer; but expand them.” Gergeni explained.

After the doors open at 6 p.m. for this year’s event, attendees will get to experience two new additions to the popular fundraiser-which had around 300 people attend last year.

There will be a cocktail contest during which individuals or businesses will present signature cocktails to win the Best Cocktail award.


The fundraiser also added a restaurant card pull. Gergeni described it as being similar to a wine pull but with gift cards from restaurants in the area.

Special items up for this year’s auctions include a George Rodrigue painting, higher-end coolers (one will discreetly contain a $500 Rouses gift card), three designer purses (one will discreetly contain a valued piece of jewelry), a life time membership to the museum and more.

In addition to the two new additions and live and silent auctions, the tickets — which axe $50 a person prior to the event ($65 at the door) — also give each attendee $200 in funny money/’ as well as access to live music by Russ Cheramie.


With their “funny money” guests will be able to play casino table games such as craps, blackjacks, poker and roulette. First” second and third place awards will be awarded for the individuals that collect the most money.

The Bayou Country Children s Museum hopes to have another successful Play It Forward, as it is currently planning its grand opening; of the brand new Synergy Bank exhibit on March 31 and hoping to soon reopen ire estuary exhibit that’s been completely redone since it was severely damaged some tune ago. The museum also increased their educational offerings in the past year for kids in the community through its camps, clubs and field trips.


“We really worked to be a part of t he community…, Gergeni said. “All of these are made possible by the generosity of the community and their support of this event. It is vital to continuing those programs,”
