Robert E. Hanley, M.D., 89, a native and resident of Lockport, La., died Monday, April 6, 2015.

Dr. Hanley practiced family medicine for more than 40 years serving the people of Lockport and Bayou Lafourche communities.


He was a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, the Lafourche Parish Medical Society and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Naval Air Station Tillamook in Oregon. His favorite pastimes were fishing for speckled trout in the coastal waters of south Louisiana, growing and caring for his rose bushes, attending bible study and enjoying his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanna Wade Hanley; children, Robert, Kenneth (Lauryn), Michael (Sharon), Constance, Judith (Mark) Brinkman, Jack (Monica) and Alan (Deonna) Hanley; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial is at Holy Savior Mausoleum in Lockport.
