Robert “Bobby Joe” Samanie, Jr., age 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 31,2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Houma.

Mr. Samanie is survived by his wife of 64 beautiful years, Ruby Eschete Samanie; children, Katherine Samanie Reid and husband Wayne, Karen Samanie Trosclair and husband James, Robert J. Samanie III and wife Mona, Angela Samanie (Cheri Chaisson); grandchildren, Billy Trosclair and wife Faith, Thomas Trosclair and wife Michelle, Amanda Trosclair Coyle and husband Chris, Laura Reid Ruffin and husband Cory, Matthew Reid and wife Kali, Tiffany Samanie Legendre and husband Derek, Chad DeHart and Christina Samanie; great-grandchildren, Cory “C.J.” Ruffin, Kenzie Ruffin, Dustin Trosclair, Devon Trosclair, Cameron Trosclair, Caden Trosclair, Carson Trosclair, Jared Trahan, and Kyle Crawford, Wyatt Coyle, Gracie Coyle, Robert Williams V and wife Amy, Monica Bouziga and husband Derrik, Ethan and Blake Legendre; great-great grandchildren, Dawsyn Bouziga and Elise Williams; he is also survived by his sister, Mary Carmen Samanie, and many nieces and nephews.

Bobby Joe was blessed with a big family. He married the love of his life Ruby on December 20, 1953. They had four beautiful children and were blessed with many grand and great grandchildren. Bobby’s family started in the Shrimp Factory Business back in 1938 as a Shrimp Canning Facility. In 1977 he started Samanie Packing Company, specializing in “Captain Bob’s” Frozen Peeled Shrimp. He sold the company and retired in 1999 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Shrimp Processing Association. He spent his days in his hobby room building remote control airplanes with his grandson Billy and Devon. He also collected LGB Model Trains and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
