On May 11, the TGMC Community Sports Institute and Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence (TFAE) will present their 19th Annual Rim for Excellence and Food Fest — an evening full of music, food, drinks, fun and of course, running — with all proceeds benefiting local education.

“Our event is one of the longest running Main Street events, which I think shows how much the community enjoys this event,” said TFAE Executive Director Katie Portier. “The funds are used to help TFAE in our mission to support local education, which includes grants to local public school teacher’s and the free book program called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. By coming to this event, you can have a great time while helping local education That’s a win-win!”

Held in downtown Houma, the event will kick off with a Kids Fun Run at 5:30 p.m. The 5K Run/Walk will follow the fun run at 6 p.m.

The fun will continue when the Food Fest/After Party opens to the public at 6:30 pm. At the Michelob ULTRA Food Court — through over 35 different partnered food vendors — there will be a wide assortment of delicious all-you-can-eat (after purchase of entry ticket) grub that will include hamburgers, boudin balls, white beans, brisket sliders, desserts, jambalaya, fried fish and so much more. There will also be tasty alcoholic beverage s, also inclusive with purchase of ticket such as margaritas, mojitos and Michelob and Michelob ULTRA.

The event will also feature a Kids Corner with several games and activities for all children that attend.

The Louisiana-based, party rock band The Flamethrowers, with their high-energy and fan-favorite cover songs, will provide the live entertainment throughout the night.

Pre-registration for the race — which ends May 3 — is $20 for ages 21 and under, $30 for those over 21, and can be completed at the Rim’s official website, www.runfarexcellence.coni. Registration for the ran includes at-shirt and entry to the all-you-can-eat/drink Food Fast/After Party.

Participants will still be able to register the day of the even t from 3 to 6 p.m., but prices will go up to $25 for individuals under 21 years old and $35 for ages above. This registration will also include a t-shirt (while supplies last) and entrance to the Food Free.

Since its inception, TFAE has provided over $1 million in grants to local public school teachers through their grant program. They have funded nearly $66,000 in supplies, innovative projects and classroom initiatives during this current school year alone. Partier said the organization hopes to raise ovan$60.000 at this year’s Run for Excellence.

“This event is the largest fundraiser for TFAE. Combined with grants, our endowment and other donations throughout the year, it is a vital component of raising funds to continue the weak of TFAE,” Portier explained.”We have become a valuable resource for Terrebonne Parish public school teachers and with the help of the community, we can continue to move forward education” •
