Students attending Raceland Lower Elementary and Raceland Middle can still take advantage of camps offered by the Wallace Center in Raceland.

Youngsters practice kindergarten skills and engage in age-appropriate games, according to Heather Benoit, director of the center. “My goal is to help these students begin building the skills before they actually enter the classroom.”

Lunch will be provided for the 30 participants.

The final camp, scheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, through Thursday, Aug. 27, is open to children ages 6-11 and focuses on teaching youth members about healthy eating and life habits through the use of the Smart Moves Program. It runs 3-5 p.m., and has space available for 30 registrants.

“The children will engage in group discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence,” Benoit said. “Students will be taught safe internet and media use and other life skills.”
