Dennis “Cowboy” Rodrigue, a longtime resident of Thibodaux, assumed the role of Senior Mayor for a Day April 22. Cowboy’s work career was bookended with the city. After six years with Thibodaux, he went to work for McDermott International for the next 30 years, only to return to a city job for another three years. In 2011, he decided it was time to retire. Cowboy was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout in his youth, and a Summer Scout Master as an adult. He also coatched Dixie Baseball, volunteered with Thibodaux Playhouse and led the Krewe of Cleophas parade for 26 years. As Senior Mayor for a Day, he was presented the Key to the City – a cooking spoon in appreciation for the countless hours he volunteered cooking for city functions – by Thibodaux Mayor Tommy Eschete. “This has been a humbling and rewarding experience,” Rodrigue said. “I am honored to be recognized as a Senior Mayor and to have spent the morning with friends.” Cowboy and wife Jane have been married for 40 years. The couple has four children and 12 grandchildren.
