Two Houma area churches are cooperating to brings special entertainment program to the Bayou Region

St. Matthew’s Episcopal and the non-denominational Living word churches will jointly host a free concert performance by the Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda 6:30 pm on Feb 22 at Living Word. 1916 Highway 311. Schriever.

“We hosted this a couple of years ago and these kids raised the roof.” said the Rev Craig Dalferes. pastor of St. Matthew’s. “We quickly realized we need a larger venue, and so Living Word Church has graciously agreed to host the event.”


Although the conceit is free. Rev. Dalferes said a love offering” will be taken up to support the ministry.

They’ll also have music recordings, and other retail items available for those who’d like to purchase them.” Dalferes said

The Watoto organization serves orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa, placing them with families in special palce they can call home within a setting of special villages The villages incorporate out door spaces with sports field-and landscaped areas that allow the children to play add develop their social skills X


“We aim to create B eco-friendly environment for these children, raising them to become leaders who bring sustainable change to their nation and beyond.” the group’s promotional materials state “To make this possible. Watoto is implementing better ways of building sustainable and cost-effective homes and villages by harvesting rainwater and using solar energy “

Through a program called Father’s Heart men from Watoto Church commit themselves to becoming father figures and positive male role models to a specific Watoto home. They visit whenever-they can to help the children with their homework, to play with younger children and to disciple the older boys.

Watoto Children’s Choirs have travelled extensively since 1994


“I’m hoping we can pack the house both to inspire the participants as well as raise awareness about this wonderful ministry to Ugandan orphans, who in most case have lost their parents to the AIDS epidemic.” Dalferes said “Their story begins in tragedy, but through hope and with Gods help, it has been transformed to joy. That’s really the main message of their ministry and their music.”
