Le Petit Theatre de Terrebonne will present “2 Across,” a two-character play by Jerry Mayer, to close out its season.

Selected by the theatre’s reading committee, “2 Across” tells the story of two strangers, a strict psychologist (Danielle Marchive) and a free-spirited, unemployed ad man (Steve Crispin o), that board a 4 a.m. San Francisco commuter train. Although strangers, the two connect in the empty train over their attempts to complete each of their New York Times crossword puzzles. The man, who doesn’t care about finishing what he starts, tosses his away. She, having the self-discipline to always finish her puzzles, snaps at hi-m after he tosses it and tells him crossword puzzles are a metaphor for life. This starts an entertaining thrill ride that’s filled with back and forth questioning of life values, shocking revelations, and solving of not just crossword puzzles, but the puzzles in each of their lives.

“It’s a cute comedy. It’s not slapstick at all,” says director, Edwina Yakupzack, “It depends on the characters and the dialogue for the humor. One of them is a loose cannon, witty young man and the other one is a sort of uptight psychologist, who has a lot of worries on her mind.”

The dynamic between the stern psychologist and the carefree farmer ad executive creates the witty banter for this Mayer play. This dynamic is sure to be brought out to the fullest by lead actors Danielle and Steve, who rehearsed the play for six weeks.

“This is my third two-person play.” Steve Bays, “I really like it because there’s not a lot of guess work. Either I’m talking or she’s talking.”

Their characters will showcase the range of the two performers. Danielle talks about her character portraying an array of emotions during the play and being the total opposite of who she is in real life. Steve says his character has a free-spirited nature and goes through the ups and downs during the ride.

“2 Across” received excellent reviews from critics. The play has been described as a “battle of the sexes throwback” by the New York Times. Beverly Hills Lookout says it’s must-see, witty, and mesmerizing. Los Angeles Weekly called it the play of the year.

Le Petit Theatre will present “2 Across” from April 27 through May 6. The production will take a one-day break as there will be no performance an April 30. All start times will be at 7:30 p.m. except for the Sunday matinees that start at2:00 pm Local artist, Anna Hebert, will have artwork for display and sale in the lobby of the theatre.
