What residents are saying about today’s issues

Do you think police officers have become too violent in crisis situations with the public?

KAREN LOWELL, Houma

It varies. Some of the stuff you see is really bad. But I do think most officers are still good, trustworthy people.

PETE WILLIARD, Gray

Some of the stuff you see on TV is scary. You just have to tell yourself that that’s a very small percentage. It just feels like it happens more now, because of social media.

TABITHA YOUNG, Houma

That’s a hard one to answer. The Baton Rouge stuff is awful to see. But sometimes they have to do difficult things over the course of their jobs.

WANDA BOURGEOIS, Houma

I don’t think so. I trust the officers who protect our freedoms. There’s a bad apple in every bunch.

JASMINE COLLINS, Houma

A lot of it scares me. I can’t lie and say it does not. There are situations that shouldn’t make me feel uncomfortable that definitely do now and that’s sad.

TANYA GUILLORY, Houma

I think some of it has become excessive. It feels like once a day, there’s a story of a new case. It’s become a lot of burden to bear.
