Movin’ on up! Area schools raise scores
December 21, 2016(AREA BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAMS; GIRLS’ LIST NEXT WEEK)
1. ELLENDER: In my last boys’ rankings, I had H.L. Bourgeois No. 1, and it drew me a ton of negative e-mails. I was wrong. The Patriots have now beaten both the Braves and Central Lafourche, which makes them impossible to leave out of the top spot.
2. CENTRAL LAFOURCHE: Coach Mark Sanders has another incredibly talented bunch this year – an overlooked bunch that’s quietly beating a lot of the area’s royalty in non-district play.
3. TERREBONNE: The Tigers endured some tough losses in the past few weeks against top competition, but they also got a few signature wins over at Barbe, taking down the home-standing Bucs and also Class 4A powerhouse Washington-Marion. That’ll be huge to their postseason positioning.
4. H.L. BOURGEOIS: Before the end of the season, the Braves will get back to a higher spot in this local hierarchy. But with a couple key injuries and a Houma-Thibodaux area that’s loaded, it’s going to be tough.
5. THIBODAUX: The Tigers have been a little bit hit or miss this year, but they have wins over Central Lafourche and Ellender, and that has to count for something. They won’t be an easy out in any game when district begins.
