A Houma native got to “come on down” recently – the opportunity of a lifetime to play on The Price is Right.

Thomas Morrison attended a taping of the famous game show recently – a taping which aired on Tuesday around the country.

Not only did Morrison attend the taping, he got called to be an active contestant. Even better, he won a Samsung smartphone and two Vespa Primaveras, while getting a chance to spin the big wheel.

When called onto the stage, Morrison showed his personality, sharing laughs with host Drew Carey.

When asked where he was from, Morrison spoke clearly and definitively, saying that he was from Houma, Louisiana.

He said the experience is something he will never forget, adding that since the airing of the episode, he’s been bombarded with text messages and friend requests on social media from people who saw him on the show.

“Being on The Price is Right was extremely a blessing and it showed that the energy that you put out is the energy that will come back to you,” Morrison said. “I was humbled to mention Houma, Louisiana and blessed to win all at the same time.”

For Morrison, appearing on The Price is Right is somewhat of a bucket list item.

He said he’s been watching the show since he was a small boy – dating back to when Bob Barker was the host.

Morrison said he used to think about what it would feel like to spin the big wheel as a kid.

As he got up to the big stage and actually did it – it felt exactly as it did in his images.

“My mother, Mary Johnson, had us watching this show since we were younger and I always had an exact feeling about how I would spin the wheel if I got a chance to. It went just as I thought.”

What also went as planned was Morrison’s appearance on the show. He sat in the front row. He hardly had to move 20 feet to get to the stage.

Once there, all he had to do was bid on one item – the smart phone, which he won with a winning bid of $730 for the $800 phone.

Once on the stage and able to mingle with Carey, Morrison said he settled down and overcame a little bit of nervous energy.

Morrison said he’s moved from Louisiana to California to try and chase a career in show business.

He said he knew in his heart when he sat in his seat that his name would be called and his only concern was how he might look on TV.

“I was concerned about if being on national television would make me look out of shape,” Morrison said with a laugh. “Luckily, it didn’t. My mom said you better go win something big, so I had to turn up.”

Morrison said when the episode aired, he watched himself on TV and smiled with pride because being on TV is something he’s always aspired to do.

And as for the prizes? He said he sold one of his Vespa Primaveras’s, but still has one. He also is likely to sell the Samsung, too, because he’s happy with his iPhone.

He said he wanted to let everyone in Houma know that he appreciates their positive energy, adding that he hopes to be on TV more in the future.

“I’m getting so much social media buzz, messages and requests,” Morrison said. “It’s like it made me famous. This is only the beginning. I appreciate all of the love and support from everyone.”

Houma native Thomas Morrison was a contestant on a recent toping of The Price is Right, which aired last week on national TV. Morrison won a bid for a smart phone, then won scooters in his game. He got to spin the big wheel, as well.
