Sunday was the Feast of All Saints. It is a time to celebrate the heroic lives of those who went before us and those who are trying to be good models for others. These are our “elders” in the faith. The following is some of their wisdom that will help us in our spiritual growth.

– “The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace.” – Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

– “We should take as a maxim never to be surprised at current difficulties, no more than at a passing breeze, because with a little patience we will see them disappear. Time changes everything.” – St. Vincent de Paul

– “Consider God’s charity. Where else have we ever seen someone who has been offended voluntarily paying out his life for those who have offended him?” – St. Catherine of Siena

– “By accepting the sufferings ‘offered’ by life and allowed by God for our progress and purification, we spare ourselves much harder ones. We need to develop this kind of realism and, once and for all, stop dreaming of a life without suffering or conflict. That is the life of heaven, not earth. We must take up our cross and follow Christ courageously every day; the bitterness of that cross will eventually be transformed into sweetness.” – Fr. Jacques Philippe

– “Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.” – St. Therese of Lisieux

– “Be one of the small number who find the way to life, and enter by the narrow gate into Heaven. Take care not to follow the majority and the common herd, so many of whom are lost. Do not be deceived; there are only two roads: one that leads to life and is narrow; the other that leads to death and is wide. There is no middle way.” – St. Louis de Montfort

– “You change your life by changing your heart.” – St. Benedict of Nursia

– “There is still time for endurance, time for patience, time for healing, time for change. Have you slipped? Rise up. Have you sinned? Cease. Do not stand among sinners, but leap aside.” – St. Basil the Great

– “There is nothing the devil fears so much, or tries to hinder, as prayer.” – St. Philip Neri

– “Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth. God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth – in a word, to know himself – so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness ot truth about themselves.” – Pope St. John Paul II

– “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.” – St. Francis of Assisi

– “The soul hungers for God, and nothing but God can satiate it. Therefore Jesus came to dwell on earth and assumed a Body so this Body might become the Food of our souls.” – St. John Vianney

– “O my God, teach me to be generous, to serve you as you deserve to be served, to give without counting the cost, to fight without fear of being wounded, to work without seeking rest, and to spend myself without expecting any reward, but the knowledge that I am doing your holy will. Amen.” – St. Ignatius of Loyola

– “The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for what he is sending us every day in his goodness.” – St. Gianna Molla

– “Put up willingly with the faults of others if you wish others to put up with yours.” – St. John Bosco

– “Our perfection does not consist of doing extraordinary things, but to do the ordinary well.” – St. Gabriel Possenti

‘We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.’

St. Francis of Assisi
