March 26, 2015Nicholls opens registration for young summer campers
Registration is open for summer camp at Nicholls State University. The university offers Colonel Camper, an eight-week-long sports and activity camp in the mornings and the afternoons. Parents can sign their kids up for both sessions in Colonel Camper EXTREME.
The camp is held from June 1 to July 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. For more information, visit nicholls. edu/continuing-ed or call 985-448-4444.
Parish won’t join Vanguard suit
The Terrebonne Parish Council voted Monday to aid environmental groups fighting an oilfield injection well being built by Vanguard Environmental Inc. near New Orleans Boulevard but will not join their suit.
Council member Beryl Amedee said the parish can’t be ta party to the suit, but can file a brief against the well. “Our time as plaintiffs is already finished.”
The parish has failed to stop the well in courts in a previous lawsuit brought by Vanguard challenging a law keeping injection wells from being built within a mile of an inhabited dwelling. State law, which the courts ruled in favor of only requires a 500-foot buffer.
