Signs banned on right-of-ways

Citizens of Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are reminded that erecting, displaying or posting political campaign signs on any highway right-of-way, publicly owned property or right-of-way or to or on any public utility pole or stanchion is illegal.

According to parish government officials, the signs hinder crews’ ability to cut the grass and may obstruct some drivers’ view. Anyone knowingly lacing signs on public right-of-ways may be liable for any damage to public property or expenditure of highways funds resulting from the removal of signs.

Caution urged on Bayou Lafourche in Port Fourchon

Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, State Rep. John Bel Edwards and U.S. Sen. David Vitter will speak at a forum Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 4 p.m., at Peltier Auditorium on Nicholls State. Candidates are expected to answer questions on funding restoration, science-based solutions and harnessing the power of the Mississippi River for restoration.

DWI checkpoint announced

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputies will conduct a DWI checkpoint on Friday. The location is undisclosed, but will be in the parish.

Deputies will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers. Lafourche is a “no refusal all the time” state, which means warrants will be sought for testing.
