Museum seeks frames

The bayou region’s new African-American museum is on track for a February opening, and organizers of the project say they are in urgent need of picture frames for exhibits.

“Big, small, square, round, it doesn’t matter, we just need frames,” said former Terrebonne Parish council member Alvin Tillman, co-founder of the museum with genealogist and author Margie Bailey Scobie.

The museum will include exhibits on notable African-American figures in local history, including politicians and musicians.

It will be housed at the Houma Academy, a former school that played a pivotal role in development of black education and culture in Terrebonne.

In addition to photographs, any type of artifact relating to black life in the bayou country are welcome. Tillman may be reached at (985) 860-9898.
