LA DOTD and SCPDC propose changing traffic flow on Houma Twin Span east side

The Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development and the South Central Planning and Development Corporation will be presenting residents on the east side with a proposal to make East Main Street and East Park Avenue one way corresponding with each of the Twin Spans’ flow of traffic from the bridges to Howard Avenue, which is the junction with La. Highway 661.

“It’s just really dangerous,” said Terrebonne Parish Councilmember Christa Duplantis-Prather. “When you have people that aren’t from this area come to visit you don’t want them ending up on the situation of [going the wrong way] on that bridge and something happen.”

Concerns over people driving the wrong way up the Twin Spans and traffic congestion caused by opposing traffic have come up in neighborhood watch meetings, Duplantis-Prather said.

The LADOTD and SCPDC will explain to residents the proposed changes and show residents maps, projected impacts on traffic patterns, and other details at a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, at the East Park Recreation Center, 8533 East Park Ave. in Houma at 6 p.m.
