Bourg property tax on Nov. 21 ballot

The voters of Fire Protection District No. 5, otherwise known as the Bourg Fire Department will vote whether to renew a 16 mill property tax that provides the department with $252,000 a year.

The district encompasses Bourg and the surrounding area. The tax revenue collected provides the department with its entire operating budget.

This vote will decide the property tax going to the district during the 10-year period between 2017 and 2026.

Bourg Fire Chief Tony Pellegrin said without the tax, the department wouldn’t be able to pay the three firemen who provide coverage to the district.

“I don’t know how we would survive,” Pellegrin said.

The tax rate will be no different than the previous ten years if voters choose to renew the tax.

The election is this Saturday, Nov. 21.
