Fight at H.L. Bourgeois leads to multiple arrests
Arrests have been made in a large fight at H.L. Bourgeois.
Yesterday around 8:24 a.m., a School Resource Officer at H.L. Bourgeois was advised of a large fight and immediately responded from another area at the school.
Chief Deputy Col. Terry Daigre said when the resource officer reached the hallway, two female students were engaged in a fight and other students had begun fighting, as well.
The resource officer began breaking them up, and was joined by school personnel who assisted.
A teacher was knocked down and struck by three students. The resource officer was not injured and no injuries were reported amongst the students involved.
The teacher had minor injuries.
TPSO backup units were dispatched to the school, but the resource officer and school personnel had the situation under control prior to their arrival.
The two females who were first fighting were arrested and taken to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center. Another female who was fighting and struck the teacher was arrested as well. An investigation into the incident is continuing and other arrests are expected.
The names of those arrested have not been released due to their status as juveniles. Two were charged with disturbing the peace by engaging in a fistic encounter. The other was charged with engaging in a fistic encounter and also battery on a school teacher.
Additional TPSO units were assigned to H.L. Bourgeois Friday at the start of school and dismissal.
