One of the Gulf Coast’s longest-running rodeos has its Admiral for 2017.

He said he’s honored and blessed to hold the title, vowing to do his best to make the event one of the best ones yet.

Officials with the long-standing Golden Meadow-Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo announced last week that area businessman Howie Guidry will serve as this year’s admiral.

Guidry is the husband of Annette (Berthelot). Together, the couple shares two children and eight grandchildren and one along the way.

The new Admiral is an avid hunter and fisherman and a lifelong Cajun.

By day, he’s the co-owner of E&L Enterprises – a heavy construction company, which has served Lafourche, Terrebonne and the surrounding areas since 1971.

In addition to that business acumen, Guidry is a member of the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese Strategic Planning Team, Knights of Columbus, the St. Joseph’s Pastoral Council, the Journey Toward Christ Core Team, among other volunteer efforts.

He said being named the rodeo’s Admiral is an honor and a blessing. He added that the entire weekend will mean a lot to he and his family.

The rodeo will take place from July 6-8th at Moran’s Marina in Fourchon. It’s annually one of the most well-attended events of the summer for area fishermen.

“I am honored to represent a fun, family event as its Admiral of 2017,” Guidry said. “I encourage all families to come and make memories with their children fishing the rodeo – just like when you were a kid, yourself.”

The rodeo is truly a family-oriented event.

Several categories make up a loaded leaderboard, including several events for children.

The rodeo also features kayak divisions and several other unique wrinkles, which make sure that no one is left behind.

“This is truly an event for everyone,” said Ashley Barrios, the 2016 Admiral.

The rodeo also features a fully air conditioned tent, which sits on the grounds at Moran’s, which allows anglers and party goers to enjoy music, food and drinks throughout the day.

During the weekend, the artwork of local artist Dirk Guidry will be on display in the tent.

Guidry, a Galliano native, has been commissioned to paint the artwork, which will be featured on the 2017 rodeo shirts and book.
