Catherine Oubre Pedescleaux, 63, a lifelong resident of St. James Parish, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, La., Thursday, April 3.


She is survived by her husband, Oscar Pedescleaux Sr.; sons, Oscar Jr. and Damian Pedescleaux; brothers, Freddie Oubre Jr. and wife, Gloria, and Raymond Oubre and wife, Bernadette; sisters-in law, Marie Oubre of Vacherie, La., Rose and Benton Weber, Mary and Joseph Wallace and Emelda Pedescleaux of New Orleans, La.; two grandchildren; and numerous relatives.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie and Pauline Phillip Oubre; and brother, Michael Oubre.

She was a retired St. John the Baptist Parish school teacher with 34 years of service. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church serving as lector, commentator, Cathechist for the confirmation class and a member of the gospel choir. She was a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court No. 135 where she served as Grand Lady for six years, a member of Father John A. McShane Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace chapter 23, a member of the Good Children Society of Vacherie, a lifetime member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and St. James Retired Teachers Association, and an active member of St. James Welcome Senior Citizen Center. A member of the “We’re Retired, Not Tired Senior Book Club”, and a member of the “Red Hat Flashers Society” social group. She was a member of the Nicholls Reading Association and a volunteer at St. John Elementary and Fifth Ward Elementary schools.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at St. James Catholic Church with mass to follow. Interment will be at the church mausoleum.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home of Napoleonville is in charge of the arrangements.
