Mandated therapy may better serve divorcing couples, counselor says

John Moritz Wiemann, Jr., 86, a native of New Orleans, LA. and resident of Houma, LA., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007.


Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by 10 children, Dr. John III and Mary O. Wiemann of Santa Barbara, Calif., Dr. Michael and Karen Wiemann of Indianapolis, Kevin and Mona D. Wiemann of Houma, LA., Judy Wiemann Markman and husband, Larry Markman of Longview, Texas, Susan Wiemann Blakeman and husband, Philip Blakeman, of Houma, Ann Wiemann Costa and husband, Anthony Costa, of Mandeville, LA., Timothy and Cathy Wiemann of Thibodaux, LA., Mary Jude Wiemann Swalley and husband, Richard Swalley of Huntsville, Ala., Wendy Wiemann Surgi and husband, Bryan Surgi, of Houma and Peggy Wiemann DiPrima and husband, Francis DiPrima of Atlanta, GA.; two sisters, Mary Wiemann Columb Andel of Mathews, N.C., and Catherine Wiemann Guise of Metairie, LA.; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mockie O. Wiemann; his parents, Catherine Dever Wiemann and John Wiemann, Sr.; three brothers, Daniel Wiemann, Cyril Wiemann and Joseph Wiemann; and one sister, Audrey Burrill.

He was a World War II veteran and a local businessman. He served on the City Council as Alderman at Large, on the Airport Commission, the Police Jury and the Planning Commission. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Chamber of Commerce, the Holy Name Society, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Pre-Cana and was in the Catholic Who’s Who. He received the Papal award of the Knight of St. Gregory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Vandebilt Catholic High School or a charity of your choice.

Chauvin Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
