Ray Joseph Becnel Sr., 85, a native of Franklin, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, Sept. 26.


He is survived by his wife, Betty Babin Becnel; three sons, Jewel Paul Becnel and wife Sharon, William Joseph Becnel and Ray J. Becnel Jr. and wife Jill; two daughters, Ray B. Feyerabend and husband Paul, and Anna Marie Lewis and husband David; one brother, Simon Becnel; 12 grandchildren, Kim, Floyd III, Cole, Jewel Jr., Jamie, Chad, Jennifer, Jacob, Matthew, Benjamin, Brooke and Brandi; and nine great-grandchildren, Rayven, Alexis, Floyd IV, Caelan, Allie, Dawson, Jordan, Jeremy and Ashleigh.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Nellie Dupre Becnel; two brothers, John and William “Bill” Becnel; and one sister, Daisy Belle Gonsoulin.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
